When the hell is the university going to deliver the keys to my new office?

Rogue, instead of sitting around and waiting with your hand out (like a typical member of the west-coast, liberal elite), for your keys to be given to you, show some initiative. Do like real Americans, reach for those bootstraps, and go get the keys yourself!

Uhhh....I've done all I can do - I've requested them, I've filled out the paperwork, and I've signed for them. Now I just have to wait for the people at university security, who are the ones who handle the keys, to approve the request and cut the copy. Don't you think that if I was able to just go cut it myself like I used to do when I worked at the Home Despot (and yes, I do mean "despot" and not "depot), I would have already?

I have my doubts. Knowing the liberal elite academic type, I know you'd rather sit around with your hands out than to take the initiative to do things for yourself. The free market, of course, rewards only those who work really hard, and punishes those who don't, and it always works perfectly.

Yeah, because it is so much better to have to get the master key from the secretary every morning when I want to be able to get to work. And by the way, I work very hard at what I do. I'm usually at work from 7:00 AM to at least 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, (which if, you're counting, is 10 hours a day, 50 hours a week) and I very rarely take a lunch break - I work through lunch. And this doesn't count any time I spend working at home. If you want to know how hard I work, you just have to ask my girlfriend!

This leads to the age-old question: "If a liberal spends 50 hours a week furthering the west-coast, liberal elite agenda, has he really worked at all?"

Well, despite what Teddy here is implying, I am not a "traditional" academic. Yes, I'm working on my PhD, but I am actually a public historian. Specifically, my work is focused on historic preservation and the built environment. Still, I must admit I do enjoy the fact that because of my willingness to work for the department (I usually refer to myself as a "minion" and my boss gladly accepts the title of The Overlord), I get a full tuition waiver and get paid on top of that!

Oh, and by the way, still no keys. I'm currently "borrowing" the master key for my office out of the work room.

Mr. Esquire is well-qualified on the subject of bootstraps. He obviously works very hard at being a jackass.

(I'm reasonably sure I know who you are, Teddy. I just don't find your behavior--in this blog--remotely useful or amusing).

Ha! My keys have finally arrived! About damn time, too. It only took, what, about 2 weeks since I first put in the request.
